I've not had to buy external drives for a couple of years but I do now, so I guess I'm out of touch. I've used (until now) extremely reliable LaCie 40gB drives and would just replace them with whatever the current model is except I recall LOTS of problems on this list with LaCie drives, from portables losing data, not being seen by the Macs, problems with BigDiscs and Jaguar/Panther, and so on.
Can anyone comment on the current situation, or recommend an alternative. They're just for medium term data storage, don't need to be striped, arrayed or ever leave my desktop, but they do need to be reliable.
