I am using Windows XP (Home) and, I have just checked, the Prefetch folder (it is called that in XP) is in the main Winows directory

Finally, there is a 'Prefetch' folder in Windows which, I understand, it uses to partially load regularly used programs into memory so start up of those apps is quicker.
Over time, this could mean that your RAM is being cluttered up unneccessarily with programs you no longer use.
If you delete the items in Prefetch then your main apps may take a few more seconds to first load but then should have more RAM at their disposal.

Hi,

Does anyone know what this folder is called in W2K? I can't find anything that seems to relate, unless it is all the exe files strewn loose in the WINNT folder? But I think it may be unwise to delete those? Where are the "pre-loaded" files?

Hopefully this may be the answer to my very longwinded bootup time.

Cheers,
David
