Some tips from the Photoshop forum on speeding up CS were:

Don't have the Histogram showing- that slows things down a lot.

Keep the memory allocation at 50% - only go to 70% if you have 4GB memory.

Keep the cache levels at 4 - higher or lower may slow some things down
