Thanks for the tip. Actually the paging file is on a different physical
drive and I have another drive just for PS scratch.

Dear Chris

That's what I thought was the situation when I replied to your original posting.

The box has 4 hard
drives in all, all but one partitioned and that's the startup drive (the
fastest IDE drive (10.000 rpm) I could get my hands on at the time of
purchase.)

Best solution is the fastest SCSI 15000 drives you can get hold of, and yes it is certainly best to have one for each of the tasks as you have done. What many are not aware is that using FAT 32 is a faster bet than NTFS for the paging file and PS scratch disk partitions. Also do keep them de-fragmented and adequate free capacity on your non paging file and scratch disks.

Still I find Photoshop CS way slower than PS 7.0.1.

Agreed it's a dog especially so in the "open file" box when selecting files for opening or trying to see the thumb nails it's like watching grass grow in winter! Unless you have to use a particular feature in CS, I find 7.01 is far more productive. BTW have you had any problems with CS not being able to use the allocated scratch space whereas PS 7.01 is fine? Only shows up on really big files.

Cheers

Richard
