We run Epson 7600's with the Image Print RIP v5.6 (the v6 is
available for Mac only for the moment - quite a long moment
probably). You have to buy one version per printer, but there is a
discount for the second printer. You can print from multiple
computers, though.

We really see the difference between printing with RIP and using the
Epson drivers only, as we demonstrate to our students on our
courses. The RIP makes a real difference in improved shadow detail,
beautiful colour, neutrality in BW prints, and many other advantages.
For BW we run matte black on one of the printers, and produce
beautiful prints on fine art papers that are either neutral or toned.
Colorbyte provide profiles for use with their RIP for a huge number
of papers and printers, and you can make your own for colour, if you
prefer. Or, if you want, they will make a custom profile for you to
use with the RIP on a paper they haven't profiled, if you just send
them the medium.

You can see a video of this RIP at the
http://www.Colorbytesoftware.com site, and more of the benefits are
apparent.

Chose 'take an online tour'.

You can download a trial copy, but the word DEMO comes out horribly
all over the print, making a real evaluation almost impossible.
Colorbyte offered to give us our money back within 30 days if we
didn't like it.

They have a driver for the 4000 and are offering special introductory
pricing on it, I see.

Of course none of this comes without trial and error to find exactly
the right settings and to see what gives you the result you are
after, but there are friendly and helpful folk at the Yahoo group for
this RIP, including names you will recognise from this group.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Ellie
