Juergen,
I have been using the Archos AV-320 for that function.  It will not display
a NEF (raw) file but it shows the full name and the file size using a
windows-like browser.  You can get up to 80 GB drives and you can have extra
batteries to swap as needed.  It has a fast USB-2 and very conveniently
shows up as an external hard drive when hooked to a computer. See:

There are several user groups dedicated to it.  They have even written an
open source operating system for it!  I have not tried any of that but here
