To answer my own question, maybe this is of use to somebody. There are already hundreds of portable storage devices out there, all with advantages, disadvantages and different features.
But the most important features are: 1) Battery Life (or it's not portable) 2) Speed of copying memory cards to internal HD and 3) Speed of copying it back to PC/Mac.
