It is possible that the drives are fine, but the RAID is not happy. You probably need to look at Disk First Aid as a starting point - does one drive give you errors? If not then DiskWarrior is an essential tool for drives - it can repair just about anything. When you first had problems was when you needed to start this process - by now it might all be a bit messy. I suppose in an ideal world you need to back up both drives - do a file compare - maybe use File Buddy or a similar utility. Reformat the orginal drives and start again for absolute data integrity. In the meantime DiskWarrior run on both drives should allow recovery.
