I'm leaning heavily towards the R series Thinkpads. There are a number of rather interesting features. A motion detector than "senses" if the laptop is moving rapidly (as in falling) and will park the hard drive heads so they don't whack your data. There's also a separate Linux partition that you can use if WinXP locks you out, or if you are in a some un secure area and want to simply wirelessly link in to the coffee shop to download your mail or web browse.

Might also be useful if you want to check a bit of code for a linux run web database as well.

That said, I'm also looking at a number of the Dell Laptops as well. Any suggestions from the peanut gallery?
