As Chris suggested, Photokina might be worth waiting for and so it has proved.
So, with the imminent arrival of a 16mp+ SLR, where now for medium format? Of course there will always be the argument of physical size. The back end of an SLR presents limitations in the size of sensor that can be attached. But, the reason I ask is that in discussion with a few people recently, the consensus was that most of the work they produced - some suggested 90%+ - rarely ended up bigger than A5. If that is the case, with the current pace of development in the digital SLR market, for how long more will people consider it worth their while spending the price of a decent car on a Hasselblad/Phase One type set-up when they can have the lot in one body for considerably less? Will we soon have a situation where there is 5x4/10x8 at one end and digital SLRs at the other? Is medium format in danger of being caught between a rock and a hard place? I think it may be. Anyone agree? Denis If you are not stressed, I would wait until Photokina to see both how the new Fuji S3 Pro is turning out and who knows, maybe Nikon will surprise us all and announce that they are back in the race with Canon?
