If you are thinking of getting a LaCie 1 TB disk, I have had lots of reports of problems with them.
They are actually 4x250GB discs RAIDed into a striped array. So if one goes - everything goes.

A better solution is to get your own setup with RAID 5 (mirrors).

Wiebe Tech do one with 2 x 400GB disks http://www.wiebetech.com/

Should we invest in a huge 1 Terabyte Disk, get all the images on to this and then start from there or is there an easier way?

And whilst on the subject, an opinion on the best way to archive thousands of images, digital and scanned, would be helpful too, as in c.d.s, dvds, hard disks, tape drives etc?

I think i'm going to have plenty of questions on Portfolio 7 over the next few weeks as i'm learning the program from scratch, which means reading through the manual and experimenting, so i hope you don't mind if the subject keeps cropping up on here every now and then?

And i will also approach the AOP list too.

Also apologies if this subject has been covered before but i didn't need to know until this morning, and i'm not using my usual computer!!!
