At the risk of a me to post I have to say that you're absolutely right.
My feeling is that the list has deteriorated only relatively recently, due to being so over-moderated.
If 'low level, non-pro' posters don't get replies to their postings they will soon leave the list. I have said before that it's so simple to add a tag to the subject line so people can set up filters for their email clients and simply bin some postings automatically.
Personally I would rather have to many postings with some variety, passion and life to them rather than what we have now, where every other posting is ruled out of order, not trimmed properly etc.
I suggest the mods trust the list members somewhat more! :-)
