Simply, the idea is to ensure the various subject brightness levels reproduce as you intend, by making exposure & processing / printing a measurable procedure. I suppose you could argue that in digital photography, the process in reversed: i.e. The Zone System is all about exposing for shadows and developing for highlights. Correct? With digital, if you follow the 'expose to the right' school of thought as outlined here> http://luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/expose-right.shtml you are exposing for the highlights (maximising them) and then dealing with the shadows in processing. Of course, you could argue that by pushing the highlights as far as they will go, you are maximising shadow detail at the point of exposure. OK, I'll shut up now! ;-) Denis =============================================================== GO TO http://www.prodig.org for ~ GUIDELINES ~ un/SUBSCRIBING ~ ITEMS for SALE
