My experience (on a 848) is if the scratches are bad one needs to set the
amount too high - i.e. fine detail is lost to the extent that I find it
worse than spending the time in PS to fix the image.

OTOH I use it very often on value 30 to take care of the small dust spots
and there it performs quite well.
