Ed You have missed the point of my post. The video clip is not about whether or not animals should be killed, but on the cruel way in which they *are* killed in certain countries where animals have few (if any) rights to protection. You have moved the discussion away from one of animal cruelty, to one of consumer choice. My post, and the video clip, have nothing to do with this argument.
It seems contradictory to me, that so many people can get angry over the abuses at Abu Graib, and yet remain so unsympathetic to the plight of thousands of animals which are routinely slaughtered in the most cruel and barbaric ways. The abuses commited at Abu Graib pale in comparison when compared to some of the cruelty inflicted on animals. Since posting the video clip, people have been very vocal in their criticism of PETA, but have remained silent on the contents of the cruelty exposed by the video clip. It is precisely this level of complacency that PETA (and other animal welfare organisations it must be said) need to overcome. But it seems people would rather sit in their armchairs, and vent their moral indignation at those who are trying to remove animal suffering, than remove the animal suffering itself. Maybe now you see how hard it is for such organisations (not just PETA) to get their message across. When a forum full of intelligent people lambast you, you have some idea of the difficulty in getting the message across to the population at large. I am disappointed, but not in the least bit surprised. I will now draw a line under this post. I've asked for a link in which a PETA official denounced these tactics, or the tactic of throwing blood on suspected animal fur wearers, and called for the punishment of those who carried out such acts. If these people were indeed copycats who had nothing to do with PETA, then such a link should not be hard to find. They start with a *personal* belief (killing animals for any reason: food, saving human life - is *murder*), and then use that to justify their actions. After all, their only goal is to prevent murder, so how could some act that is at best an incovenience or which inflicts a psychological scar on a child be wrong? They do not allow for the possibility that others may hold differing POVs; those who do are by definition murderers and do not need to be considered. They are no different than the anti-abortion radicals, who likewise start with their personal definition of murder, and then try to impose that on everyone else by whatever means necessary. If you truly want to help advance the improvement of the treatment of animals, you'd be better off ditching PETA and finding a group that isn't so self-righteous. -- Ed Leafe -- http://leafe.com -- http://dabodev.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
