The patch does not work with Office 97, which is on the majority of our computers. Also, installing the patch on later versions of Office breaks compatibility of those versions with Office 97--you install it, you can now read docx, but you can no longer read Office 97 doc. So no, I need a freestanding converter. Thanks.
