Pete, you're missing the point entirely..

Everything is done on paper first.
Speed is brought into the equation via a computer as is searchability, analysis, etc...
But you could do all that by hand, it just takes a lot longer...

Thats really the only thing the computer has brought us, is speed to do all the what if's....to retreive the info

You are confusing limitations with functionality. Virgil's point, which I
agree with whole-heartedly, is that if it can't be done on paper then it
can't be done.  No mention of efficiently.  So, the paper system has
serious limitations due to the physical constraints such as quantity or
response times - that's why we use computers! But the basics still apply,
if it can't be done on paper first then it can't be done.
