I've never tried multiple WAPs but I used to run a setup like this:

[modem/router]=>[switch]=>[wireless router wired as WAP] - with PC's
cabled off the switch and the 'WAP' as well as wireless connections. I
*did* get problems when I changed config. and I found the best method
was as follows:
Power up the router (by default it will probably be set as a DHCP
server, if it's a normal retail job probably it's set as 192.168.1.1 and
serving 192.168.1.32 thru 64). Connect a laptop by cable and try to
connect to the admin page at 192.168.1.1, if it fails check the laptop
network settings. On the admin page check gateway, mask and dhcp
from/number settings (if you want to change it 192.168.1.32 thru 64 is a
good default). Check all your PC's are either using dhcp or use IP
addresses in the range e.g. 64-127 (I reserve 2-31 for any servers).
Then unplug your laptop and connect a WAP (if its a real WAP I would
expect the factory default settings to have DHCP as client/passthrough)
- plug a *cable* into the WAP and see if you can connect to the *router*
admin page and the web, if OK repeat for other WAPs. If the WAP is
actually a wireless router, then as already posted *don't *use the
uplink port, and it is likely to be set as a DHCP server which must be
changed - you should be able to connect to it 'stand alone' and find its
admin page (don't know if that also applies to real WAPS- haven't got
one - but either way you may need to know the factory default IP address).
Finally I have found that problems on my network sometimes just go away
overnight - maybe DHCP leases expiring and clever switches and routers
discovering things for themselves. hth
