Tough call but I can see their point.... what if the situation were
reversed and the client of yours wanted to move their data from YOUR
application to this cloud thingie?
Wouldn't you probably charge for the time you spent exporting the data?
My applications already have an export where you can export all of the
data into an Excel spreadsheet for whatever purpose you want. Many
others - ACT comes to mind - provide exports.
I had an insurance broker try to get data from a cloud service and they
didn't have a programmer or anyone to assist so all of the data was
irretrievable.
My opinion is that the customer owns the data and should have a way to
get to it if they want it.
