That reminds me of a client at my previous job. There data was BIG - and my BOSS did the Exporting of Data. Problem was - some files had too many records - and i think the limit was like 65K records directly exportable to Excel. So - then it becomes cumbersome export the records beyond that.

So - its kind of a sticky situation. Especially if the SW doesn't already have a built in Export feature - and there are Many files - it does make a bit of handy work. Just sayin' - as I have seen the case before...

Tough call but I can see their point.... what if the situation were
reversed and the client of yours wanted to move their data from YOUR
application to this cloud thingie?

Wouldn't you probably charge for the time you spent exporting the data?
My applications already have an export where you can export all of the data into an Excel spreadsheet for whatever purpose you want. Many others - ACT comes to mind - provide exports.

I had an insurance broker try to get data from a cloud service and they didn't have a programmer or anyone to assist so all of the data was irretrievable.

My opinion is that the customer owns the data and should have a way to get to it if they want it.
