Most of the world does not enjoy the level of human rights that we Americans have today, let alone the level of human right that we Americans HAD before the PATRIOT act. There was a time, not too long ago, that Americans could communicate with each other privately without worrying about who was listening in. There was a time when Americans had the right of Habeas Corpus to provide some protection from being jailed for no reason. Hell, there was even a time (albeit short) that Americans did not have to worry about being suspected of a crime because of the clothes that they wore or the color of their skin or the lord they worshipped. So whose human rights are we protecting, Virgil? And what civilization is going to fall down? The one in Darfur? Chile? Afghanistan?
