It's powerful stuff, alright, but doesn't provide much more than
we've been able to do with Fox for a long time. Python has had
similar capabilities since around 2000 or so.

        +1 QOTW!

I hate to feel like a vulture swooping down on a fresh carcass, but
whether you go with Dabo or REALBasic or Java or <fill in the blank
with your x-plat tool>, I can't recommend strongly enough that you
get away from this system of churning development tools to force
everyone to buy the latest and greatest or get left behind as some
dinosaur.

I don't know how many of you remember the Power Rangers TV show and
toys that were big in the early 90s, but they were developed by a toy
company, and part of the plan was to regularly replace the characters
with newer ones with cooler powers so that kids would have to keep
buying the toys year after year. As a parent with a kid who fell for
this, I resented the blatant manipulation of this toy company. We did
succumb to one cycle of replacing, but after reading about how the
company worked, I decided that I wouldn't buy their stuff anymore, no
matter how much the kid shrieked.

That's the way I feel about Microsoft. They only care about making
us learn new stuff for the sake of forcing us (and our clients) to
keep buying the "new" solution. Our eyes are wide open, so you can
either choose to play along with them, or you can refuse to be
further manipulated by their marketing department.

        Your choice.
