Yes, we agree on this one. I built my house myself, and even designed it. I
have 5 hvac units with different sections/zones. I put an airlock on every
access point so there is a buffer zone. My house is about 6,000 square feet
and the average utility bill is under 300.00 per month. We also have about
30 lights in the yard, but they are all solar. If I build another house, I'm
thinking about using the cooling pit like GWB has in his. I had actually
read about that in a home design mag years ago, but just didn't do it this
time. Maybe next time.

John,

Yup, its true. The Snopes page about the email is
http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp

I would like the whole situation a lot better if Bush pushed
environmentalism and Gore lived it, but I have to grant the right wing
commentators the fact that Gore does come off as a hypocrite with that house
of his. That house is going to bite him in his big fat butt if he tries to
run for office again.

I'd also love to have been able to build an even more eco-friendly house
than we did, but we didn't have the Bush's budget. We had to be satisfied
with extra insulation, one floor below grade, an ultra-high efficient A/C
and furnace, two zones in the house, and the best polarized tinted dual pane
windows we could by.

The house is cooler than the outside even though a whole wall of windows
faces due south. The basement level is very cool even on the hottest days.
I'm extremely happy about it. Now we just need a new general contractor and
to get it finished.
