Smaller city ?? <grin>

Population 500 or so...
Should have been in the Hee Haw show but wasn't...

Roommates have never been my idea of living, although I have had them up in
new England.

The number one thing that drives up prices is scarcity.
There are few houses here which equates for high prices.

Now I checked in Austin last night at a place I stayed a few years ago.
535 will get you a 1br 1 ba within walking distance of a pub

Maybe you should try a smaller city... A single individual living in a
small house or average apartment can live comfortably with $40-60k in
many parts of this great country... I know people around Rochester, NY
where I live that live comfortably with less.

$750/mo for what? A single-room studio apartment? That's about
$300-400 here in Rochester... For $750 you can get a decent 2 bedroom
apartment, but at that point, if you have the credit and plans to stay
in the area, you might as well get an inexpensive 800-1300sqft house
for $80-130k-- and even rent a room to a housemate and cut expenses
even more...
