I think the laminate is ok. It's not very difficult to lay either, except it
makes your back and knees hurt. You might look at some tile for the kitchen.
It's not hard to lay and looks good. We bought some from Lowes that cost
under 2.00 per foot and it looks great. Yeah, there's a pony, and don't
think you have to have every thing finished before you can move in. I'm
getting ready to pour some sidewalk and a couple of patios and we've been
here for 5 years!

Hi!

We are starting to emerge from the depths of despair into the light of hope.

Anybody have an opinion about using a laminate flooring? We have such a
tight budget to finish the house that we can't even afford carpet, so I
found a deal on a 7mm "hardwood" laminate flooring that I like. The catch is
that I have to lay the stuff myself. It is $1.13 per square foot and is
quite attractive.

We're going to put a vinyl flooring on the basement level, and it will
become a 'slip' floor for a future hardwood floor there. Can't put hardwood
directly on top of concrete, and it would be a warmer floor than using tile
or stone.

For the kitchen, it looks like I'm going to be assembling IKEA cabinets. We
can't afford the custom cabinets that were originally in the spec anymore.
Or the new appliances. And the granite counters are giving way to IKEA's oak
butcher block at 1/10 of the cost.

The good news is that it appears we will actually be able to finish the
house.

There's got to be a pony in there somewhere... For those that know the joke.

Kristyne
