I had a chance to read on it a little. China still has a strong policy to control population. They use economical rewards to encourage families to have a limited number of children. For example, the families that limit themselves to only one child receive free day care, better housing, food coupons, etc. China is still on course to have negative population growth in the future, despite the fact that it would cause a shift in the population to more people falling into the over 60 years old category in relation to the population as a whole. Many of the over 60 years old population would be without any younger generation to help them, but that is a sacrifice that must be made to get population growth rate back in line with what the world can sustain.
I remember seeing something on TV about china's one child policy, whereby mothers who became pregnant with a second child were required to have an abortion, and during the abortion procedure were sterilized, or something like that. Anyway, the problem of overpopulation is fixable, and where the cause/effect problems of overpopulation can be identified, overpopulation should be fixed.
