>cutting government spending is no simple matter,

Come on now... we got into this situation, we can get out of it... if there is
a will. We are always told by the left that common sense ideas will not work
because there is so much we dumb citizens don't understand.

We know that dishonest (mostly) Ds used the SS money to fund more of their
failed grandiose plans for the 'great society' and beyond. However the Rs have
been their silent accomplices in letting it happen, then getting infected with
cash distribution disease as well. True we have created toooooooooooooo many
entitlements that we are saddled with, but I have heard talk that SS benefits
could be cut... what about other transfer payments to both individuals and
corporations laying sideways in the public trough? The problem is everyone is
(sort of) in favor of cutting spending as long as it isn't their piece of the
pie.

The big problem is not one of complexity, but of will. These cash drains were
created, most can be destroyed! The deficit is a result of the realization
that the government (read taxpayers) cannot afford the expenses generated by an
ever growing government and the desire to give out benefits while letting
someone in the future pay for them.

Hear that flushing sound... it's our tax dollars going down the drain.
