Thanks for that. She hasn't called back yet, but I've known her to take a 
day to mull over a problem before calling me again.

This system still has to run on Win 98, which has no such folder hierarchy, 
which is a major reason why I didn't write the thing to go looking for it. 
(Yeah, I know, it has \Program Files\Common Files\.... and 
\Windows\Application Data... never took those seriously either. I don't 
work for Microsoft and I don't take orders from them on where to put files.)

My bottom line is simply this--however much software vendors may claim 
(with or without real enforceable legal validity) that I'm only "licensing" 
their software, I bloody well OWN the hardware, including all of the hard 
drive real estate, and the OS has absolutely no business restricting my 
access to any part of it.

Maybe they'll get really obsessed with online subscription "software on 
demand" and drop out of the OS market. Yeah....right...
