There is no good reason for keeping everything in one vcx. Everyone
I've ever asked said they didn't think of it or know any better. Even
Drew Speedie entertained the idea of writing a program to degroup his
classes but was voted down for reasons involving the status quo.

And that's only more reasons to keep the status quo.

IMO the entire converting VCX to text is a huge imperfect work-around
to a problem which should never have started.
