A client of mine recently noted his PC had done an automatic update, after
he had explicitly set the PC up to advise, but not update unless done
manually. I have seen in the recent past M$ messages advising End Users
that their automatic update feature is not set up correctly, and offers to
"correct" that. The result, automatic updates are re-enabled. Anyway, he
ran into problems afterward with his Office XP Word only able to run in Safe
Mode (Word Safe Mode, not the OS in Safe Mode). I ended up fixing it by
deleting his normal.dot file, then letting Word XP rebuild it. Easy enough
to do, but for End Users to be told they have an incorrect setup after
setting it up to behave a certain way just seems real wrong to me. His fix
was easy, fortunately. I have heard too many stories where that has not
always been the case.

Not sure, but I doubt it, since I set my AU settings to "Manual--let me
download and do it when I want to...hands off you M$ bastards!"
....but then again, M$ has done things like this in the past and been
caught, even those users had the settings set to off/manual!!!
