Yes, you do. You choose not to do so. There is a big difference.
Email clients can filter messages based on lots of criteria; 'From: '
address is the obvious choice. You've stated that you have spotted
people who frequently abuse the freedom afforded them on the list. The
obvious solution is to add their addresses to the filter, with the
result that your inbox is now much more tolerable.
Now imagine if all the members of the list did this. The idiots could
continue to spew amongst themselves, and the rest of us wouldn't have
to put up with that crap.
