Ya know, I tried explaining to you all in my last post what's going on AFAIK on quality.
Being the Lead m******f****** Test Engineer for VFP 8 and 9 I might actually know something, OK? Sorry, my frustration is showing. Anyway, YAG is middle-management. He could have left the Fox Team (as it were) and moved on to more glorious endeavors in the company without burdoning himself with a dying product but out of - I dunno - love of the product or loyalty to you folks he devotes a lot of time to the product. Probably something that doesn't contribute to his annual reviews and even the more reason to appreciate what he does. There is no chance VFP will ever be open-source because it does constitute a potential threat to other MS tools. Folks on the team desperately wanted MS to let us loose but it was never going to happen. Let me address another misstatement as well: There is NO FOX TEAM. There's Milind who is a part timer, the devs who are also part-time, and no resources for UX and god knows what for test. You have what you have. If there is another SP it's because YAG busted ass and traded political favors to get it done. The former Fox Team developers are extremely astute and MS really wants to put them into more strategic projects. There are no former testers at MS; neither are there any more PMs with the depth of knowledge or experience that Randy had. On that note, the former Fox devs LOVE the product and hold it near and dear to their hearts. Look at Calvin's blog for proof. But if management says that you don't have time for Fox....what are you going to do? The situation will not change. I wish it could, I love VFP as much as any of you. But reality is that nothing you say or do will change anything. Nothing. I feel like someone who's slowly losing a loved one to incurable cancer. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rick Schummer Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 7:42 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: Sedna Released ("with this the last Microsoftrelease ofVisualFoxPro") >> I think that YAG has been very committed to the other portions of his >> M$ life. The foxheads are what 1% maybe 5% of his client base? Does he have to really give a lot of time? Do you remember that his former company before leaving was pro VB as well as sure we can still do VFP? << YAG is the manager of the Fox Team, his personal percentage of time is meaningless in the discussion. What his old company did before he was in charge of the Fox Team is also irrelevant. Besides, it is a proven fact that the small team was very efficient and able to deliver huge features without a lot of resources and internal support. Maybe the other parts of his job required more of his time. Metrics of results is a much better way to evaluate than he linear measurement of time. >>Open Source and M$ ? What are you talking about anyway? MicroSquish is not putting any of their code up for your mods, only for debugging. To me that is not Open Source. CodePlex is a place for you to shove your stuff for others much like * sourceforge*.net.<< Do some homework Stephen. Yes, CodePlex is a repository developed by Microsoft (and open source). While your reference may be true for the .NET framework source code they are releasing, Microsoft is doing other work in the open source community. And I am not just talking about the Sedna stuff they just released.
