Sure, as was his father's name. But he went by Barry until, he started smoking dope, doing crack and such stuff, according to his book. He made a conscious decision to change from Barry (a more American name) to Barak a more muslim name. He also has talked about how wonderful Farakhan is, and has befriended other anti Americans such as his rev, their mutual friend "father" idiot, and then there are those underground weathermen he pals around with.
