Supermarkets here normally have an economy range.  Cheap meat, "B
class" vegetables etc.
I generally don't buy them (I try to buy organic if possible) but I do
buy economy carrots & apples for juicing.

The Scandinavian supermarket chains like LIDL & ALDI have been
increasing in popularity.  Do you have them in the US?  Stack 'em hich
and sell 'em cheap type places.

Hey, I know I live in the only other country that uses imperial
measures but I was born in '73 so I was brought up on kilos!  I still
buy beer and milk in pints though :-)

To be honest I don't really check the price of groceries that much.  I
look at the pack price and if it seems reasonable I buy it.  A perk of
working in IT I suppose...
