When I was single, I lived on Hamburger Helper. I ate it in many different
variations, and I thought it was great. I would cook it in a small pan and
eat from that. I would put it in the refrig after I had eaten, and revisit
it the next day. I never got fat, of course I worked out too. So, you buy
some ground beef, or even chicken and get some noodles and some sauce, and
you got a meal. Spaghetti will go a long way, and it's not that fattening,
if you leave off the butter laden bread.

I just skimmed through the messages, when I saw the thread had exploded,
but someone had asked how do you get to be morbidly obese, if you're not
eating.

Well, they ARE eating - else they'd be dead. You get to be morbidly
obese by eating crap instead of food, and you eat crap because you can
afford it.

To use myself as an example, when I was a poor college student, working
my way through college, I had to make $20 stretch a LONG way for food.
So of course I bought heart healthy fish at $6 a pound, fresh produce,
nuts and fruits... NOT. A pound of "Scrap-O-Crap" brand hot dogs costs
only 79 cents and makes the "meat" portion of 8 "meals." A pack of
Ramon noodles (I still love those things! - I just now eat them rarely,
and with caution. :-) costs only 10 cents.. So for 20 cents - VOILA!
Pasta with Meat Pennys! A complete meal in itself!

During college I gained 30 pounds, and If I had continued to eat like
that I'd be... well, I'd be dead, actually, but before I died, I too
would have achieved my true Jabba potential.

That doesn't excuse or explain everyone, of course, but still, it's much
easier to be fat when you're poor, then when you're rich. (Which has
been true for probably about 40 years, and in Western countries - for
all the rest of human history and the world, it was reversed.)
