The fear and threats made directly and via insinuation are exactly what a
recording device is good for. If you decide to sue for harrassment, or file
a compalint, there is no more, "Gee, I think Mr. so-and-so misunderstood
what I said.", or, "I was never told to not call his/her place of
business.", kind of crap. I have a standard .wav file just waiting to be
eMailed to anyone who wants to hear the truth. heh-heh...

It is not just debt collectors who are a PITA. I pay my taxes, watch
carefully each step I make, and pay a CPA a lot of money to help me stay
clear of problems. I still ended up getting a PC based phone recording
system just to document any and all conversations with any NY or Federal tax
agencies. I have gotten (I am certain intentionally) incomplete and
incorrect information a few times too many times. The last episode ran me a
tab of $640 of what turned out to be a needless unemployment insurance
premium compliance payment. When I later discussed the matter with my CPA
(he had been on vacation) I got straightened out, and wanted to re-file my
documents with what would have been a zero dollar filing, just like the
original filing. The gal I had been dealing with said, "Well, you are the
one who filled out and signed the last set of forms. If you think we gave
you incorrect information we can accept a revised set of forms. But that
triggers an automatic audit." Lying, greedy weasels. When I asked for a
copy of their notes I was told I can't have their notes. I can hardly wait
for the next round of state sponsored extortion telephone conversations <g>.
Someone is going to be getting their head handed to them on a platter by the
time I am done with the situation. Those bastards try to nickel and dime a
small business owner to death, I guess to help close the $30b deficit NY is
facing.

I have learned to not trust anyone in the insurance adjustment business,
anyone dealing with medical insurance claims, insurance salespersons in
general, and especially anyone working for any tax agency. I would like to
think all the misinformation I got over the years was out of ignorance, but
as of late I believe it is a matter of weasel wording and duck-and-cover.
Why did I leave debt collectors out of the list on non-trusted folks? I
never had to deal with one. If that day come I am going to be ready with
both barrels loaded!
