It is about managing perceptions not realities. People want Outlook, not
Thunderbird. THAT's the reality that you have to deal with. I used to use
Eudora until a few months ago; try convincing people to use THAT! I like
email programs that just email and no other rubbish. I like mobile phones
that make and send phone messages and don't have calendars, movie cameras,
GPS etc etc etc. But try and find one!

I've used outlook and thunderbird, and would never want to use outlook,
which would 
appear to disprove your argument.

I agree though, that trying to convince users to switch from what they are
used to is 
usually a losing battle.
