I give an informal (usually verbal) estimate of how much time I think the work 
will 
take, and then bill for actual time spent. Lots of times, it is less, but 
sometimes 
it goes over than the estimate. I'll give them a courtesy call letting them 
know this 
is happening, but if I'm working on their app I'm charging for my time.
