Old people always look back on their youth with fondness. The grass was greener, food was tastier, people were nice etc etc. and its generally a lie. Pre-communist Russia was a disgrace. Mind you communist Russia was no better and in most ways actually worse but let's not try and paint the Tsars as anything wonderful.
