I agree it's an abomination... but the US had no option... no crime was
committed within US jurisdiction that he could have been tried against
and UK law doesn't allow for someone to be tried twice for the same
crime so even if it had been a crime to kill in the US to kill someone
in a foreign country he would never have been extradited.

I still believe extradition was still viable, but, the United States
still seems that it went along with the release with zero opposition.
After all the years it took to finally bring him to trial, to release
him in only 8 years is an abomination.
