So basically it's not a good option. I've been tempted by cheap netbooks
from Acer but the low res versions. Maybe there is no point anyway which was
my first thoughts on the matter

Yes, it runs. Not as fast as on other computers. The biggest problem is the
screen resolution, though. It really is no fun developing in 1024x600 when
you can't even fit the properties window and the form designer completely
onto the screen.

In one application we introduced a netbook mode where the app runs maximized
with most form borders and the menu turned off to maximize screen estate.
