See my previous posts about my own personal "experiences" with Ubuntu 
and linux in general. Lots of people on this list have had nothing 
but success with Linux, but I've always had some issues ( like 
wireless never working ).  I'm sure it's been improved by now as this 
was back on version 8. I think Windows is a the safer choice for the 
non-tech, as there's lots of other people who know how to fix Windows 
or make it work. Finding a real Linux guru is not that easy for the 
average non-techie person. Heck, it's not even supported at Geek 
Squad or other places that serve to help the non-tech crowd.
