Hi Paul,

Were I governor I would strike a deal with everyone on death row. In 
return for a commutation to life in prison in maximum security I would 
sign a warrant for immediate execution that would be stayed as long as 
the condemned person never sought release other than for positive proof 
such as DNA or another's confession to the particular offense the 
convict had been convicted of. If any appeal for other than these 
reasons would be sought the warrant, and the convict, would be 
immediately executed.

The idea of the death penalty is to protect society from someone who 
might murder again. If there arises positive proof that the person did 
not murder in the first place, well . . .

On the other hand, as punishment - it is too easy. Way too easy.
