Kurt, Why not simply use Wordpress with one of the many free templates. That way you get a full blog and all the other advantages of being able to re-skin it whenever you get bored with no programming at all.
There are that many templates out there that you MUST be able to find one you like and the paid for ones are only a few dollars.
