here is what I've got/done.......its an isa sb16...ver#ct1740(made mid '99-2000, its not that old just outdated by 'cutting edge standards'..i'm only really using it because I've never gotten my Vortex to work w/any version of linux)....I've got sound w/Windows,Mandrake, and when using Kernel 2.4 w/Progeny, I just cant get the blessed thing to work w/the 2.2.18 kernel....I've tried Bobs tirck (earlier post) substituting my irq of 5 for his of 7, and leaving out the mpu #(I dont know if this version has a mpu....kernel 2.4 gives an io of 0x220, irq=5 and dma 1,3) whether I edit the files and reboot or try to use modconf, I keep getting the error message that "lib/modules failed...device or resource busy..might be because of incorrect values".....even tried to use sndconfig to trick it to find it...no luck...I havent tried the pnpdump trick...the resulting file might as well be Greek to me and I dont know how much to uncomment(every line after the 'u have choices here line'??????)....any easy way to do this or am I sunk???

p.s. another silly thing though...I changed my desktop wallpaper to something else, went to change it back to the single blueish-white progeny one, but I cant find it! I can only find the orangeish-dual galaxy cluster one! Where is the single cluster blueish-white one hidden????? .

hey i cant get any sound....i have a standard SB16 plug and play (ct1740) it works in RedHat and Mandrake also Windows...with MS, the properties are as listed: irq:5 i/o:0240h-024Fh i/o:0300h-0301h i/o:0388h-038Bh dma:01 dma:00
Now how do i set this up in Progeny to get sound?
I've tried adding sb module w/ options io=0x240 irq=5 dma=1 placed in /etc/modutils/sb this did not work...i also tried installing sndconfig(unstable) and it cant find the soundcard either....how do i get this thing to work?
