If you're having problems with modules, wouldn't a monolitic kernel be a workaround? I have always done things this way... About the wallpaper, are you using KDE? Maybe, just maybe, you weren't using a wallpaper but a gradient from blue to white (check the options, kde allows lots of gradients for the background). That's all I can say... Cl�udio Max
