Wojciech suggested that technique here and it seems to work
(his other suggestions did not work for me for reasons mentioned
earlier)

i think the 'auto-refresh' i mentioned is also somewhat interesting

also as i mentioned it does not as far as i can tell make the document
'portable' although it does solve the in-house issue
