A few things to get *very* familiar with:
1) The navigator panel - once you have a filtered selection use the navigator.
2) The concept of filters and filtering - browse all the filter scopes and 
then start to think like an expert in boolean logic.
3) Investigate the "filter like this" functionality (on the right-click menu).

Something else I think that will deserve some thought is the difference 
between selected and focussed (in P99SE) and the alternative in DXP.
