Slau is correct. we both use pro tools differently, actually up until recently even the mac differently. and he is straight on as to how pro tools gets managed. It is rather a complex package, honestly can get pms worse than any woman I know, and because of its place in the industry all aspects must flow together. I can actually think of other reasons for things not to roll forward, after all having the beta edition gives others others who were not in the small pool of testers a chance to explore all the features. It is not like we are all the same in how we work with audio.
So, its wait and see until it is in a supported edition, for me at least.

Not at all, man. We're cool. Karen and I go back a long way, maybe twenty or
thirty feet. No heat y'all.

Regarding the way Pro Tools is developed, many departments work on various
aspects of the application and versions are tracked by user and group. At any
given moment, there could be dozens of versions on the server. At various
points, changes are incorporated into the master version. thing is, at
absolutely any point in the process, if, for example, there are inexplicable
problems and the development team suspects that certain groups or programmers
made some errors, the features could be peeled back.

Actually, the changes to the UI to support VoiceOver were originally supposed
to be incorporated into version 8.0.3 but, for whatever reason, it didn't
happen and it was rolled over to 8.0.4.

There's no specific reason to think that the stuff didn't make it in but, hey,
like I said, independent verification would be nice. I'll be away until Monday.
Maybe I'll get a chance to download.

wow, I can't believe that we are getting in to this heated debate like this.
lol Kind of funny. I just wish they would hurry the hell up and drop this thing
so we all can play with it! F**k all that BS you guys are talking. lol.
In my experiences as a beta tester, Programmers don't want to do extra work to
take something out of a 99.9 percent completed program. If the last beta was
accessible and avid was directly in touch with blind people for their input,
what would make anyone think that they would strip all that work out of the
final product? that would realy mean undoing pretty much everything they did
over the last months.
How smart would that be?
Just my thoughts.

Karen,

First, please call me Slau.

Second, Digidesign never guarantees that anything in a beta will appear in the
final release. Now, listen carefully: I have no reason to believe the changes
were not implemented. I have every reason to believe they are. All I said was
that, until someone confirms it with the commercial release of 8.0.4, we can't
say with absolute certainty that everything is as we've expected. What did you
learn as a journalist? Check your facts. That's all I'm suggesting. Once again,
all I'm saying is that we're talking as if it's a done deal but I have yet to
hear that someone has installed 8.0.4.

Jerry,
A beta release as you just noted, is *not* a commercial release. to my mind
commercial releases are official.
If digi backs this, then why have they not told you, firmly, that the changes
exist?

Karen,

I'm not sure what you mean by "official release." Of course, it's officially a
Pro Tools release. If you mean, whether it has the changes implemented in the beta,
again, I don't mean to alarm anyone but I have yet to hear of someone downloading the
update, installing it and confirming the changes. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Anyone? Just asking again. If I have a chance on Monday, I'll try to confirm.

So, this is not an official release yet?

It's not a dumb question at all. Here's a very important thing to note. While
the accessibility improvements were clearly featured in the beta release of
8.0.4 HD, LE and M-Powered. Until someone actually confirms it with the
commercial release, there's no way to guarantee it. By all means, we're all
quite confident that the improvements were implemented but I have yet to hear
from anyone that they've downloaded and installed the commercial version. I'm
still on the beta and have not yet gotten around to doing the upgrade. Has
anyone else?

This may sound like an extremely improbable thing but, it's possible that
things might've changed before the release. That's why most companies ask
testers not to talk about beta versions. In case something happens and a
feature must be shelved until a future release, they don't want people to have
expectations.

Again, not to alarm anyone but, frankly, I haven't heard of anyone installing
the commercial version yet. Anyone? I personally won't have a chance to upgrade
my HD system until a week from now, at best.
