I agree with James, I'd like them inline, and as my other email said, I'd prefer the subject of the email be the first line of the commit log. Git seems to consistently use the first line of a commit log as a summary of the commit, so I've been trying to consistently provide a short, helpful first line, and then a more detailed log below if necessary.
